Halloween Cat Bat

Here's a little paper clay cat bat I made for the Vintage Halloween swap on Craftster. I don't often work with clay, so each time I try, it's a real adventure. He stands about 6" tall, and is dressed to go trick or treating. To help him stand, I bent a wire hanger into a U shape, turned it upside down, and built his body onto the wire with the two ends of the U becoming his legs.

The open polka dots on his costume were the result of a happy accident. When I first painted them, I wasn't happy with the color, so I attempted to wipe them off. They had already partially dried, so I was left with a little ring of color that I happened to like. I did the rest of the dots in that same way: putting dots in a small area, and then wiping out the centers. Once he was all painted, I used some ink to dirty him up, and then painted him with glaze to make him shiny.

My partner in the swap said she liked a bit of humor, so oops! cat bat has lost a button and his little rear end is exposed.

Ready for my close up, Mr. DeMille.

Talking Heads

I just got back today from Stamford, CT, where I spent 4 exciting days going to "art camp" with Art Is...You. Every day there were tons of classes to choose from. I'll have to report in on what all I made, but for now, I want to post my favorite thing, this "Talking Head", from a class by Doreen Kassel. When I saw her work, I knew I had to take this class. I'm not very experienced with working with polymer clay, but I learned lots of great new techniques, and I'm really pleased with how my Talking Head turned out. Lookie!

This little gal (I named her "Precious") stands about 6" tall. But the cool thing about Talking Heads is that the body and heads are separate, so you can change them up at will.

Some times,  Precious is just a little piggy.

We had such a blast this year at art camp. I am exhausted. 😄

Bunny Boy

I was poking around on Etsy the yesterday and happened upon sweetbestiary, a shop with the cutest little paperclay figurines. I fell in love with the little figures with the animal suits on! There wasn't one with a bunny suit on (my favorite!), so I decided to give it a whirl and make one of my own. I ended up using Apoxie Sculpt for mine, but would probably opt for paperclay if I decided to do another.

Here's my bunny boy, in his little blue polka dot rabbit outfit. Once he was painted, I brushed a little ink on him to age him, and then covered him with some glaze to make him shiny. He fits right in the palm of my hand.

His puffy blue tail. Obviously, sweetbestiary has me beat in sculpting technique, but I sort of like the wambliness here.
Now where does a little bunny boy like to live?
